Mirisata loosely translates from Sinhala to "spicy curry." Not everything we serve is spicy, but it is bursting with flavor and unlike anything else you can find in Portland. Our food is 100% vegan and much of it is gluten-free.
We're structured as a worker-owned cooperative, currently with three members.
Alex grew up eating Sri Lankan food prepared by his dad, who was raised in the mountainous tea country of central Sri Lanka. After years of learning to prepare his favorite dishes at home, Alex teamed up with Simar and Rochelle to help bring Sri Lankan cuisine to a restaurant setting in Portland for the first time. We look forward to sharing our food with you!
Our logo isn't actually a chicken -- it's the Sri Lankan Jungle Fowl, which is the national bird of Sri Lanka. Of all the amazing animals in the country, this one has special significance for a vegan pop-up. There are four jungle fowl species in the world and, while the other three were domesticated to become chickens, the Sri Lankan Jungle Fowl resisted attempts at domestication and is still only found living free in the wild.
To design the logo, we commissioned our friend Suprabha Irugalratne, a vegan activist and illustrator from Kandy. Thank you, Sue!
